The World Customs Organisation (WCO), in its ongoing effort to support customs managers in the increasingly complex world of global trade, has published e-learnings on a wide range of topics, including the Harmonized System. The courses are subdivided by product sector so that users can select training that applies to their specific line of business.

The Harmonized System (HS) is a product nomenclature developed by the WCO that allows participating countries to classify traded goods on a common basis for customs purposes. These six-digit codes, arranged in a legal and logical structure, are used by more than 200 countries and compromise about 5,000 commodity groups. This classification forms the basis for customs tariffs and other non-tariff measures, and therefore it is of particular importance that the codes be understood and applied correctly. For this reason, the WCO created several HS e-learnings to support customs managers in the private sector. The WCO Academy E-Learning Platform offers HS trainings focused on the following industry sectors:

  • Textiles
  • Chemical
  • Agriculture
  • Construction
  • Art & Jewelry

Harmonized System e-learners will:

  • Learn how the Harmonized System nomenclature is structured
  • Learn about the vital importance of applying a uniform nomenclature
  • Learn how to apply the General Rules of Interpretation (GRIs), which will enable you to correctly classify goods under a certain commodity code
  • Gain a better understanding of the classification of goods in your company’s product sector

WCO Academy E-Learnings are a perfect way to expand your customs knowledge.
