HMRC announced late last year that the final stage of the switchover from the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system to the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) will now occur on 30 November 2023.

CHIEF closed for importers in 2022 but still remains open for exporters until the autumn of this year, and while the deadline may seem far away it's important to start the preparations now.

After the November deadline, exporters will no longer be able to make export declarations on CHIEF or the National Export System (NES). From this time, businesses must submit all their export declarations on CDS.

This webinar covered:

  • The final stages of the CHIEF withdrawal and lessons learnt from imports
  • Important steps you need to take to get ready for CDS – whether you’re self-filing or a broker acting on behalf of a trader as somebody who makes declarations
  • Key differences between CHIEF and CDS
  • Information you will need to submit declarations on CDS
